HEALTH PROFESSIONAL AND PATIENT RELATIONSHIP

Relationship between health care professional and patient is fundamental in health care settings. So, to be rational, the relationship encompasses obligations. This also put forward the concept that a nurse, being so, takes care of patients regardless of illness. In 1994, Hanford stressed that “every nurse must recognize and respect the uniqueness and dignity of each patient and client, and respond to their need for care, irrespective of their ethnic origin, religious beliefs, personal attributes, the nature of their health problem or any other factor”. This clarifies the point that care comes before role and duty according to Hunt, Geoffrey in 1994, in his book Ethical Issues in Nursing, New York: Routledge, at http://www.questia.com/.
